What Customers Say About Krups GVX1-14 Burr Grinder , Black:

I don't know how many times I cleaned it out just to get a day's coffee only to need to clean it out a few days later. Don't even try to clean the grinding elements, unless you want more frustration. We have since switched to the Cuisinart DBM-8 - loud as a jet, but over 18 months of problem-free grinding (and cheaper too). Overfill the hopper and you're hosed. In doing so you must make sure the cover engages with two sensors that make sure it is closed. Gave a good consistent grind for daily coffee and occasional espresso. Received as a wedding gift and honestly liked it at first. Then the annoyance and frustration began. The hopper is way too small and requires you to fill it every couple of days. Get some wayward grinds or dust into the sensors, no coffee for you.The outflow container suffers from the same problem - two little sensors to tell the machine no coffee will fly everywhere.

Had the same grinder before. It lasted very well, this is replacement.Great product. You can dial your grind and how many cups.

Spend your time enjoying great tasting, great smelling, fresh coffee. Don't spend your time cleaning up, don't let your precious beans get aerated and struck by harmful light while in the hopper. I'd prefer a solid on/off switch instead of the push-button. I am an occasional coffee drinker, so that's 4 years of moderate to low use of at most 1-2 times/week.Pros:* Easy to use, just select a grind type (being careful to change to finer WHILE grinding), select an amount, and push the button.kind of.* Grinds enough for ~ 4 people.* Fast.* Tolerable noise level, electric burr grinders will tend to be noisy.* Looks decent.Cons:* Fast grinding produces high static, translation = messy messy messy, I end up with grinds within a 1-foot radius after I open up the container and try to dole it out.* Could be quieter, especially if it ground slower* Fineness control is below average, the finest setting is still not "espresso" fine, but coarse is good enough for a French press.* Inconsistent grind quality, due to its fast grinder it produces a lot of "dust" when doing coarser grinds, which makes for sub-par French press coffee. As such, I can never get the grind timer just right for the amount I measure. Don't get caught up with "for the price" statements.

Buy a better grinder and enjoy the benefits. Acceptable for auto-drip filters. The static is the first thing that started to annoy me, and for that reason alone I would suggest against this grinder. Even then, it was overpriced for what you get.I measure my coffee each time I grind it, I don't like to store my coffee in a clear hopper exposed to air and light, both of which are detrimental. I would call this a matter of personal preference.I have since replaced it with a far superior design that cost almost the same and will never break (hand-cranked). Some people are just used to the problem, but there are far superior designs that eliminate it such as slower grinding speeds and conical grinders. I have had this grinder for 4 years now and have never really liked it from day 1.

The price tag when I got it was about $45, which is a far better value than the current street price. I now only use this one when I need a quick fix and don't mind spending the rest of my time cleaning up the mess while the coffee brews.I would recommend against this grinder for the aforementioned reasons.

The power switch is inoperative for no reason that I can see. Krupps would do well to redesign the fragile power and safety switch for their own good. This could have been a nice little grinder but it suffers from serious mood disorders. Cleaned everything and ensured no coffee beans were in the way of the safety switch, yet no grindy :(One shouldn't have to pay $1000 to get a well engineered coffee grinder.

My sister ground some pepper in her machine, which worked fine at the time. Don't try ginding anything else though. So, just put coffee in your grinder and everything will be fine. I've had this little grinder for two years and it is still grinding my coffee like it was new. You put the whole coffee beans in the top, push the button and then the ground coffee comes out the bottom into the holding bin. But then, her coffee always had a taste like pepper, which is not good, unless you like coffee with pepper in it, which most people do not.
